THIS AMAZING FORD MUSTANG FOX BODY COLLECTION BARELY HAS ANY MILES

It isn’t very often that a large, meticulous collection of cars come up for sale at auction. But at Mecum Auctions this year, that happened with what is called the Meticulous Mustang’s and More Collection. This was a stunning array of Fox Body Ford Mustangs from 1979 to 1993, as well as one 2021 Mustang Mach 1. All of which were practically brand new with no car having more than 1000 miles on the clock.

Mecum has listed this array of Fox Body Mustangs which they believe are the lowest mileage examples in the world. Several still have their dealership stickers in the windshields. Highlighting how fresh and clean each one of these muscle cars really is.

How The Meticulous Fox Body Mustang Collection Began

The collection is the brainchild of Dave, who’s grandfather worked for Ford in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Thanks to which Dave was able to see the production of the muscle car first-hand, which left a mark on him leading him to buy a 1985 Mustang GT T-Top in 1987. The Meticulous Mustang collection itself began in 2010, with suitable storage acquired and more financial freedom, and Dave slowly started to fill up the collection with various examples of the Fox Body Mustangs.

As the collection shows, Dave was after some of the best Fox Body’s on the market. So there is no car here that has more than 1,074 miles on the odometer. Most of which show 100 miles or fewer, making them more like museum pieces, some not even prepared for ownership by the dealer. Its one of the most historic Mustang collections to ever seen.

1979 Indy 500 Pace Car Mustang Is The Oldest

The oldest car in the collection is the 1979 Indy 500 Pace Car Edition, with this Fox Body Mustang having just 76 miles on the clock when new. In original, unmodified condition, the muscle car was in the original owner’s care since 2015. The muscle car even sports the tires it had when it was first sold at CT Foxworthy Co in Indianapolis.

This Mustang Pace Car also sports the rare combination of the 140 hp 5.0-liter V8 engine under the hood, matched with the four-speed manual transmission. Ford built 10,487 examples of this Mustang and only 2,402 of them ever had this combination of engine and transmission. Each of them replicas of the car that was the official pace car for that years Indy 500. The year in which the Fox Body made its debut. This particular example proving to be a real time capsule back to the dealership with the covers still on the seat and steering wheel.

1985 Mustang GT Is The Last For A Carburetted V8

One of the other examples was a 1985 Ford Mustang GT. Out of the three V8s on offer, the only one that you could get as a four-barrel carburetted V8 was the 210 hp top of the line GT model. This example features that very engine, the 5.0-liter high output V8 with its 600 CFM Holley four-barrel carburetor. This model year also marked the last year of that carburetted 5.0-liter engine, the only engine available for the Mustang GT up to that point.

The 1985 model year saw the Fox Body updated, with a new narrower grille opening, but the model retained the quad four-eye headlights. This is another example in the Meticulous Mustangs collection that retains its plastic covers on the seats. It even has its temporary license plate in the rear window, something affixed by the dealership nearly 40 years ago. With only 100 miles on the odometer, this muscle car isn’t even ran in, and even comes with a few options such as air conditioning and the rear window defogger.

1992 Ford Mustang SAAC Is Rarest In The Collection

The most remarkable of all the cars in this collection is the 1992 Ford Mustang SAAC Mk1. The headliner for this vehicle is that it is number 37 of 65 ever produced, all sanctioned by the Shelby American Automobile Club. Initially, Ford was set to create these Mustangs with Shelby America directly, but at the time they were working alongside Dodge. Hence, it became the SAAC Mustang.

Complete with original Ford and SAAC window stickers, the Mustang was put into long term storage immediately after its sale, with just 9 miles on the odometer. Today, that number has only increased to 14, with it the second-lowest mileage car in the collection. Under the hood is a GT40 5.0-liter engine, one that SAAC worked alongside Ford with to earn EPA certification.

The engine produces 295 hp thanks to its high-flow GT40 cylinder heads and GT40 tubular intake, as well as the 65 mm throttle body. A five-speed manual transmission ensured the SAAC Mustang’s were all dreams for gearheads, with the Hurst shifter adding even more coolness to the Fox Body. This Mustang could run the 1/4 mile in around 12-seconds, an impressive achievement for a car in the early 1990s. Still in its delivery condition, the SAAC Mustang is in the Oxford White with blue midlevel side stripes and over-the-top Le Mans striping that all the MK1 SAAC Mustangs had. A color scheme that was unique, and one that stands out from all other Fox Body Mustangs ever made.

1993 SVT Cobra Was The Final Fox Body Mustang

The Meticulous Collection also includes two of the final Fox Body Mustangs created, one that has 32 miles registered and another with just 13. As our recent digital rendering shows, we wish the Fox Body would make a modern comeback. Back the original though and the last edition was the iconic 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. A fuel injected 5.0-liter V8 engine gave the SVT Cobra 235 hp, which was 40 hp more than the standard 1993 Mustang GT.

This increase in power came thanks to GT40 cylinder heads and other changes such as unique upper and lower intake manifolds. A five-speed manual was the transmission of choice, itself upgraded with a performance clutch, stronger components and a new short-throw shifter. This allowed for firmer and more direct shifts between the gears.

Ford didn’t just work on the power either, with them revising the suspension settings to improve the handling of the Mustang. It had the added benefit of also improving the ride of the Fox Body, creating a more comfortable muscle car. That extra power also needed extra braking performance. So Ford upgraded those with the addition of rear-wheel disc brakes, helping make braking a real strong point of the Cobra.

All of these cars are some of the best preserved Fox Body Mustangs in the world. Cars that Dave believes should proudly sit on display in someone else’s garage, keeping them in their pristine, museum like condition.
